docs: a commit count goes stale the moment it is written #80

Merged
extant2000git merged 1 commits from docs/commit-count-drift into main 2026-10-15 01:24:39 +00:00
Owner

Both documents said 298 commits. Merging them made it 300, and this commit makes it 302, which is the whole problem with the number.

CHANGELOG.md no longer counts at all: "without reading every commit" says the same thing and cannot be wrong. docs/BEST-PRACTICES.md keeps a figure, because a self-assessment is a snapshot, so it now carries the date it was taken beside it.

Found by checking the OSTIF letter's numbers against the repository, where 298 had already become 300. The same pass confirmed the rest: SPEC.md is 5,851 lines, check-doc-references.py resolves 153 sections, and test/vectors/ holds 26 files.

CHANGELOG.md no longer counts at all: "without reading every commit"

figure because a self-assessment is a snapshot, so it now carries the
