Install version N, upgrade to N+1, assert sessions, identity and history all survive. Today's worst bug was an upgrade-shaped bug: sign-out kept the device and sign-in did not load it.

Trade: needs old builds kept and installable, which is worth having anyway.

⚠️ Idea, not a commitment. Second pass, filed 2026-09-01 during the code freeze — design and cost it, do not build it yet.
