CI ran :app:testDebugUnitTest and nothing else, so the release variant
of the app suite was never exercised anywhere. Four tests in it have
been failing since the day they were written: they take an Activity
rule, ComponentActivity is declared by ui-test-manifest which is a
debugImplementation dependency, and the release variant's merged
manifest has no such activity. Green board, red suite.
The exclusion that covers this existed and was a hardcoded name. It
said ScreenshotTest, the next test to take an Activity rule arrived
months later, and nobody thinks about a list in a build file. It reads
the names off the sources now, so a test opts itself in by the rule it
declares.
Both variants run here now, 296 debug and 276 release, all green. The
gate's floors move with them: 663 / 453 / 75 / 572, and 1580 overall.
